OSCAR ENRIQUE GOMEZ'S IMPACT
Oscar Enrique Gomez was a remarkable young man whose passion for educational justice and community empowerment continues to inspire us every day. Raised in Baldwin Park and a graduate of Baldwin Park High School (1990), Oscar embodied exceptional leadership through his academic achievements, athletic talents, and unwavering commitment to public service. At UC Davis, his powerful voice reached countless listeners through his radio program 'La Onda Xicana,' where he wove together discussions on culture, history, social justice, and the transformative power of higher education.
Oscar's dream was to return to Baldwin Park with his Communications degree to develop youth projects and guide young people toward college—especially those overlooked by society. His life, though tragically cut short in November 1994, was defined by his selfless dedication to serving others and his profound belief that education could break cycles of inequality. The LUCHA Foundation honors his legacy by continuing the work he began: championing the underdogs, recognizing untapped potential, and creating pathways to higher education for deserving students who embody Oscar's spirit of determination and service to community.
WHO WE ARE.
The Latino United Community and Higher Education Association (LUCHA Foundation) was established to create higher education opportunities for motivated, resilient, low income, and first generation college bound youth without preference or consideration of ethnicity, race, religion, and academic performance. With LUCHA’s support these youth will continue to pursue their dreams of completing a post-secondary education on their way to a successful career. At LUCHA Foundation, we believe education, resilience, and community drive success. Founded in honor of Oscar Enrique Gomez, a passionate activist for social justice and education, we strive to build a stronger future for our community.
